Sauid Ishaq: Consultant Gastroenterologist and Interventional Endoscopist in Birmingham
Professor Sauid Ishaq is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Interventional Endoscopist based at Dudley Group of Hospitals, with a private practice at The Harborne Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare UK, in Birmingham. He holds national accreditation as a bowel cancer screening colonoscopist and specialises in advanced endoscopy and gastrointestinal disorders, including gastrointestinal cancers, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD), Barrett’s oesophagus, irritable bowel syndrome, coeliac disease, dietary intolerance, dyspepsia, Helicobacter Pylori infection, inflammatory bowel conditions and anaemia. Professor Ishaq is renowned for his innovative contributions to endoscopy, introducing techniques to the UK such as underwater colonoscopy, flexible endoscopic treatments for Zenker Diverticulum and GERD, and full thickness resection of early cancer. In 2019 he introduced endoscopic treatment for Zenker Diverticulum in Japan and plans to establish this treatment at The Harborne Hospital in 2024. Professor Ishaq has published over 195 peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters and serves as a reviewer for leading scientific journals. He is actively involved in endoscopy training and is a director of the Birmingham International Endoscopy Symposium. He has acted as an advisor for NICE interventional procedures and was part of the National clinical advisors to NCEPD: GI bleed study. He is a visiting Professor at Birmingham City University, a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and a member of the BSG and ESGE.
