James Brown: Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in Plymouth
Mr James Brown studied Medicine at the University of Bristol, qualifying in 1996. His formal surgical training began with six months at the renowned Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, followed by the All-Wales training programme in trauma and orthopaedics. He gained extensive trauma experience at the busy centres of Cardiff and Swansea and developed an interest in surgery within developing countries during a six-month placement at an orthopaedic unit in the Transkei, South Africa.
After receiving his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training, Mr Brown pursued a year-long Fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital under Heath Taylor and Mark Farrar, completing it in December 2011. He then undertook a further four-month Fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, Middlesex, a leading tertiary referral centre for complex cases, working with Dishan Singh.
In May 2012, Mr Brown was appointed as a Consultant at Practice Plus Group Hospital, Plymouth. He now performs a high volume of elective foot and ankle procedures, including ankle arthroscopy, joint fusions, joint injections, tendon reconstructions, and treatments for forefoot conditions. His knee surgery caseload includes total and partial knee replacements. Additionally, he plays an active role in supervising trainee surgeons at Practice Plus Group Hospital, Plymouth.
