Gyorgy Lovasz: Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in Derbyshire
Mr Gyorgy Lovasz graduated as a Medical Doctor from the University of Pécs in Hungary and completed his training in orthopaedic surgery in 1981. He has held consultant surgeon roles in various academic positions at the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Pécs and undertook a two-year fellowship at Orthopaedic Hospital, Los Angeles. He later spent three years as a consultant orthopaedic-trauma surgeon in Al Ain, UAE.
Dr Lovasz has performed over 7,000 surgical procedures in the UK, including hip and knee replacements, knee revisions, knee arthroscopies, and hand and foot surgeries. His primary area of expertise is lower limb arthroplasty.
As the orthopaedic lead at Practice Plus Group Hospital, Barlborough, Mr Lovasz, together with Mr La Malfa, pioneered joint replacement as a day surgery procedure. This innovative approach utilises regional block anaesthesia and an enhanced recovery pathway that sees patients begin physiotherapy just two hours after returning to the ward.
