Training and experience

Mr Bart Decadt completed his medical training in Belgium, and took up surgical training in South Africa and Manchester. Mr Decadt also undertook the first MD degree at the University of East Anglia in laparoscopic surgery.  

He was appointed as a consultant surgeon in 2005 at Stepping Hill Hospital.  He has pioneered laparoscopic assisted cancer surgery for the stomach and oesophagus in the North West.  

Mr Decadt's main clinical interest is bariatric surgery and he was involved with the first laparoscopic gastric banding in the UK in 1997.

He specialises in advanced laparoscopic surgery (keyhole), bariatric surgery (obesity surgery), and surgery of the gallbladder, bile duct, oesophagus and stomach.
